FREMONT, Calif. – Elma Electronic in Fremont, Calif., is introducing the rugged small-diameter MR50 1/2-inch rotary switch for portable, mobile, and space-constrained devices that operate in harsh environments.

Typical applications include avionics, military targeting, military communications, cockpit controls, and transportation-related devices.

The MR50 is not subject to ITAR controls. Elma's manufacturing facilities are located in Europe, where ITAR registration does not apply to either the MR50 or any of Elma's other rugged switches and encoders.

The multi-function MR50 offers precision selection with as many as 16 selector positions that offer tactile feedback, even when the user is wearing gloves.

It has a zinc die-cast housing with nickel plating, solid gold contacts, and a robust stainless-steel shaft, as well as the option of IP68 front panel sealing. The MR50 rotary switch provides reliability in extreme conditions. Switching torques are selectable at either three or six Newton Centimeters (Ncm), depending on the user's preferences.

The MR50 switches also are customizable, even in smaller quantities. Users can select between round and D-shaft configurations as well as the lengths of the shaft.

Standard switch configurations include 10, 12, and 16 positions, with shorting or non-shorting contact arrangements available regardless of the number of positions.

Operating temperature range is -45 to 85 degrees Celsius. Although the standard MR50 version is one-pole, there are two- and three-pole versions planned shortly.

The series meets humidity, vibration and shock to MIL-STD-202G standards. For more information contact Elma Electronic online at www.elma.com.
