German MRO specialist Lufthansa Technik acknowledges importance of Turkish aviation market with new office in Istanbul
HAMBURG, Germany, 11 April 2012. officials of Lufthansa Technik, which specializes in commercial aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), are acknowledging the growing importance of the Turkish commercial aviation market by opening a sales office in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
Turkey is among the top-10 growing countries around the world, leads growth in Europe, and Turkish aviation is steadily gaining in importance, Lufthansa Technik officials say.
"With fifteen airlines within a single country, Turkey offers us great potential," says Wolfgang Weynell, vice president of marketing and sales at Lufthansa Technik.
Lufthansa Technik maintains 24 sales offices around the world. In addition to the new office in Istanbul, a new representation was opened in Montreal just a few weeks ago, company officials say.
Lufthansa Technik is not the only MRO organization acknowledging the growth and importance of Turkish aviation. Last January the Airbus MRO Network in Toulouse, France, welcomed Turkish Technic, based at Istanbul Ataturk International airport in Turkey, as the 17th member of Airbus MRO. Turkish Technic is the MRO center of Turkish Airlines.
The Airbus MRO Network, which has 18 members, provides commercial aircraft maintenance services from MRO providers throughout the world with Airbus aircraft experience.
Lufthansa Technik was established in 1994 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. The company has 60 line maintenance stations worldwide handling 1,700 aircraft inspections daily, Lufthansa Technik officials say. The company has about 750 customers worldwide with 2,000 aircraft are under exclusive contracts.
