GDC Technics chooses Ametek power electronics for Boeing 787 VVIP aircraft conversions
HARLEYSVILLE, Pa.Aircraft modification engineers at GDC Technics in Fort Worth, Texas, have selected Secondary Power Distribution Units (SPDUs) and AC Power Distribution Units (PDUs) from AMETEK Power and Data Systems in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, for the company’s Boeing 787 commercial jet VVIP or very very important person conversion program.
AMETEK’s off-the-shelf, compact, lightweight SPDU distributes 288 amps at 28 volts DC power to up to 54 electrical loads. The unit saves weight, space, and cost by reducing wires, circuit breakers, and utility boxes. The unit’s functionally and design benefits fit well with GDC Technics LEAN-engineered infrastructure approach that enables GDC to design, engineer, manufacture, install, and certify its luxury interior modifications and technology entirely in-house, officials say.
While the main purpose of the AMETEK SPDU is to provide circuit and wiring protection, the flexible unit offers such features as arc-fault detection, pulse width modulation, remote load power control, load power monitoring, and automated load shedding, along with prognostic and diagnostic maintenance capabilities. All features are look-up table configurable, for use on multiple applications/aircraft without software or hardware changes.
Taking a green aircraft and evolving it into a VVIP-level flying masterpiece takes vision. GDC provides a seamless, single-contact modification experience for clients, officials say. GDC Technics is a global aircraft modifications and technology company approved by both Airbus and Boeing for next-generation narrow and wide-body aircraft structural and system refinements.
GDC Technics, an experienced aircraft modification center, holds multiple approvals, including FAA and EASA 145 approvals and a Design Organization Approval (DOA). GDC also is certified to ISO 9001, AS9100 and AS9110 quality management systems.
AMETEK Power and Data Systems designs and manufactures integrated power generation and solid-state power distribution systems, starter generators, DC motors, linear and rotary actuators, data concentration and cockpit instruments for business jets, and regional and commercial transport, helicopters, military aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Power and Data Systems is a unit of AMETEK Aerospace & Defense.
AMETEK Aerospace & Defense is a division of AMETEK Inc., (NYSE: AME) a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of approximately $4.0 billion.
