MOSCOW – Russian flag carrier Aeroflot in Moscow has taken delivery of its 44th Sukhoi Superjet 100 fly-by-wire twin-engine regional jet. Aeroflot officials say they plan to expand its fleet by another six new SSJ100 in the near future, bringing the total number of modern Russian-built jets in Aeroflot’s fleet to 50.
Built by Russian aircraft designer Sukhoi in Moscow, the Superjet 100 is configured with 12 seats in business class and 75 seats in economy. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 competes in the international regional jet market with the Embraer E-Jet and Bombardier CSeries regional jetliners.
The superjet 100 has an avionics suite from Thales in La Defense, France, and has a flight management system from Canadian electronics manufacturer Esterline CMC in Montreal. the plane's electronic systems comes from Hamilton Sundstrand, a United Technologies company in Windsor Locks, Conn. Its auxiliary power units come from Honeywell Aerospace in Phoenix.
The plane's engines are from the Power Jet Russian-French joint venture in Paris. The new aircraft will start operating on Aeroflot routes in the coming weeks, Aeroflot officials say.
