9 October 2025 - Textron Ground Support Equipment (GSE) has introduced the Safeaero 220E, an all-electric aircraft deicing vehicle designed to serve a wide range of aircraft from regional jets to widebodies. The system is CE-certified for Europe and aimed at international markets as part of Textron’s push toward ground support electrification.
Powered by two 109-kilowatt-hour lithium batteries for a total of 218 kWh, the Safeaero 220E uses a liquid-cooled AC motor that delivers comparable performance to diesel models, enabling full-day operations between charges. The vehicle supports both 22-kilowatt AC charging and 120-kilowatt DC fast charging options.
A key feature of the Safeaero 220E is its true single-operator capability. The driver can maneuver, position, and perform deicing from the cab, eliminating the need for additional crew members. The boom system offers a nozzle height of up to 65.6 feet, a swing reach of 45.9 feet, and a telescoping range from 13.1 to 27.2 feet.
