Coherent boosts ultrafast lasers expertise with acquisition of Lumera Laser GmbH

SANTA CLARA, Calif., 2 Jan. 2013. Industrial and military laser specialist Coherent Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif., has acquired Lumera Laser GmbH in Kaiserslautern, Germany, which manufactures ultrafast lasers for micro-electronics, and precision materials processing.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., 2 Jan. 2013. Industrial and military laser specialist Coherent Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif., has acquired Lumera Laser GmbH in Kaiserslautern, Germany, which manufactures ultrafast lasers for micro-electronics, electro-optics, and precision materials processing.

The acquisition broadens Coherent's existing portfolio of industrial ultrafast lasers, and will play a central role in the expansion of Coherent's ultrafast products, company officials say.

Lumera makes rapid and hyper-rapid picosecond products in such applications as specialty marking & engraving, photovoltaic manufacturing, glass cutting, and LED scribing.
