NEW YORK CITY, 21 September 2006. L-3 Communications' L-3 SafeView Inc. subsidiary, a division of the newly established L-3 Homeland Security Group, has completed the installation of a number of active millimeter wave (MMW) body-screening portals at key entry control checkpoints in Iraq's International Zone (Green Zone). The Dutch Army also has placed an order with L-3 for an undisclosed number of MMW portals and x-ray checkpoint screening systems for facilities in Afghanistan as part of the NATO contingent.
L-3 SafeView's portals pinpoint objects made of any material, including liquid containers, rubber, wire, plastic, and metal, to locate weapons, contraband, and other threats concealed on the body. The portals detect concealed and hidden threats, such as metallic and non-metallic weapons, and virtually all known explosives, drugs, and other contraband in seconds.
L-3 SafeView portals are used for enhanced security at border crossings in Israel and international airports, such as Mexico City and Amsterdam's Schiphol. These systems also have been deployed at ferry landings in Singapore, railway stations in the U.K., and government and commercial buildings in The Hague and Tokyo.
L-3 provided both conop consulting and training to the U.S. Army, multinational forces, and other key U.S. government agencies for the current installations. Installation and training of systems purchased by the Dutch Army will take place in Afghanistan in late September.
