MilDef boosts product expertise in rugged computer and rugged tablet products with AMREL acquisition

Rugged computer specialist MilDef AB in Helsingborg, Sweden, is boosting the company's expertise and business reach in rugged laptop and rugged tablet computers with their acquisition of the rugged product lines of American Reliance Inc. (AMREL) in El Monte, Calif.

HELSINGBORG, Sweden, 11 Oct. 2016.Rugged computer specialist MilDef AB in Helsingborg, Sweden, is boosting the company's expertise and business reach in rugged laptop and rugged tablet computers with their acquisition of the rugged product lines of American Reliance Inc. (AMREL) in El Monte, Calif.

Terms of the deal were not released. MilDef designs and builds customizable rugged mobile computers, network switches, special electronics, and rugged displays for the military. With this acquisition, MilDef offers US customers service and support on both the East and West coasts.

MilDef will carry on AMREL's legacy under its MilDef brand name, and the AMREL computer division will focus on its mobile biometric product line to provide secure and reliable products to global homeland security, says Edward Chen, CEO of the AMREL Group.

The AMREL computer division has provided commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), modified COTS, and customized rugged solutions to the defense, industrial, and public safety sectors. MilDef will continue to provide service and support to AMREL's customers.

"The U.S. is an important market for MilDef and this acquisition allows us to further strengthen our position within that market," says Tomas Odelid, CEO of the MilDef Group.

"MilDef and AMREL have been partners for over two decades and this acquisition is a natural fit," AMREL's Chen says. The acquisition is expected to have a positive effect on the consolidated earnings for the rest of the year.
