6U OpenVPX single-board computer for radar and other signal processing introduced by Mercury
CHELMSFORD, Mass., 17 Sept. 2013.Mercury Systems Inc. in Chelmsford, Mass., is introducing the Ensemble HDS6602 high-performance 6U OpenVPX single-board computer for complex radar and other massively intensive embedded computing applications, company officials say.
The dual Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v2-based embedded computing module should be able to deliver peak symmetric multi-processing (SMP) performance of 608 billion floating point operations per second.
The HDS6602 uses the Mellanox ConnectX-3 technology for InfiniBand or Ethernet as a high-performance interconnect in OpenVPX, and is powered by two 10-core Intel Xeon processors E5-2648L v2 (codenamed Ivy Bridge-EP) running at 1.9 GHz and supporting to 128 gigabytes of memory.
Native Intel Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) v1.1 inter-processor interconnects enable virtual cache coherent processor cores delivering true deterministic processing. SMP underscores the open, yet configurable nature of this module to support existing software (including Linux and OpenCL), tools and libraries.
Intel Advanced Vector Extension (AVX) implementation enhances floating-point and complex algorithm processing ability. On-board Gen 3 PCI Express pipes feed the data plane with either 40 gigabits per second Ethernet (TCP/IP and Sockets) or DDR/QDR/FDR10 InfiniBand (OpenMPI and OFED) via two Mellanox ConnectX-3 bridges.
The module includes Mercury's Air Flow-By technology, which cools the HDS6602, enables full-throttle processing, and isolates the module from moisture, liquids, and dust. The HDS6602 module will be available this fall.
