U.S. Marine Corps officials tasked Lockheed Martin [NYSE:LMT] with a $58.6 million contract to provide sensor systems technology for the Portable Rapid Deployment Surveillance Systems (PRDSS) and Vehicle Optic Sensor Systems II (VOSS II) programs.The company developed the Gyrocam VOSS, a vehicle-mounted sensor system, that is mast-mounted on land vehicles or expeditionary systems for remote surveillance operations. It uses a 15-inch class gyro-stabilized gimbal to provide high-resolution color with night vision and thermal sensors.The Gyrocam PRDSS is used in rural, urban, and extreme terrain environments to provides command personnel a sky view tactical areas.Lockheed Martin engineers will provide 30 PRDSS and 110 VOSS II, plus additional field services and equipment.
