Honeywell improves mobile networking, rugged computer, and SATCOM capabilities with EMS Technologies buy

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J., 13 June 2011. Honeywell International in Morris Township, N.J., has agreed to acquire EMS Technologies Inc. in Norcross, Ga., to boost Honeywell's expertise in mobile networking, rugged mobile computers, and satellite communications (SATCOM). The EMS Aviation segment in Ottawa has been an avionics hardware supplier to Honeywell and other major avionics systems integrators. Honeywell (NYSE:HON) plans to acquire EMS Technologies (NASDAQ:ELMG) for $491 million in cash.

The EMS Aviation segment in Ottawa has been an avionics hardware supplier to Honeywell and other major avionics systems integrators.Honeywell (NYSE:HON) plans to acquire EMS Technologies (NASDAQ:ELMG) for $491 million in cash. EMS Technologies consists of EMS Aviation; EMS Defense & Space in Norcross, Ga.; EMS Global Tracking in Tewkesbury, England; and LXE Inc. in Norcross, Ga.

The acquisition will improve the rugged mobile computing technologies and satellite communications capabilities in the Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions in Golden Valley, Minn., and the Honeywell Aerospace segment in Phoenix, company officials say.

The EMS Global Resource Management division provides rugged mobile computers for transportation, logistics, and workforce management, and secure satellite tracking and messaging search and rescue, warehousing, and field force automation. EMS Aviation provides terminals, antennas, in-cabin network devices, rugged data storage, and surveillance for avionics and data gathering.
