Jena-Optronik to provide attitude-control sensors for Japanese spacecraft

JENA, Germany, 24 Jan. 2008. Jena-Optronik GmbH in Jena, Germany, is providing the Japanese Technology Group Mitsubishi Electric Corp. in Tokyo with rendezvous and docking sensors for attitude control on space vehicles.

Jena-Optronik -- a subsidiary of Jenoptik Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH -- is working under terms of a contract that Jena-Optronik officials value at more than $10 million. Jena-Optronik is authorized to deliver 12 sensors. The delivery will run until 2012.

Jena-Optronik's sensors will enable the automated approach and docking of supply vehicles with the International Space Station ISS. Mitsubishi Electric Corp. is the contractor for the avionics module for the supply vehicles of the Japanese Space Agency JAXA in Tokyo.
