Army asking industry for presentations on military night vision systems for vetronics-on-the-move surveillance

FORT BELVOIR, Va., 29 Sept. 2009. U.S. Army night vision systems experts are trying to find defense companies able to design and build vehicle-mounted mobile electro-opticalvetronics systems that are able to search the surrounding area while the vehicles are moving.

Toward this end, the Army is inviting night vision technology companies with this kind of night vision optics and military systems integration expertise to attend a night vision surveillance market research vendor briefing at Fort Belvoir, Va., on 21 and 22 Oct. -- just three weeks away.

Army officials at the briefing will provide an overview of the governments interest in mobile electro-optical systems -- which the Army refers to as mobile optical augmentation systems -- and the potential for quickly equipping U.S. Army forces with a solution.

Participating companies may exchange information with NVESD on any mobile electro-optical systems they are developing, and are ready or near ready for simulation and test (technology readiness level 5). Each vendor will be allowed 30 minutes to present its mobile electro-optical system, and 30 minutes for questions and answers.

Sponsoring the military night vision briefings are officials of the Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command (RDECOM), Communications and Electronics Research, Development, and Engineering Center (CERDEC), Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD), Ground Combat Systems Division at Fort Belvoir.

Vendor briefings should include production capability, production cost estimate and delivery schedule.

Interested companies should e-mail a request to participate, as well as an advance copy of the vendor's briefing to Marilyn Shortle at [email protected], no later than 3 p.m. eastern time on 9 Oct.

Briefings should be kept unclassified, and companies are responsible for paying their own expenses. Those attending must have Secret security clearances. Requests to participate should include company name, business unit, address, phone number, e-mail, point of contact, and a list of attendees with nationality.
