SAN DIEGO, 14 Oct. 2010.Military information technology specialists at the BAE Systems Mission Solutions division in San Diego are upgrading multi-level security trusted computer workstations at the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) at the Pentagon in Washington. BAE Systems will create a worldwide virtualized desktop infrastructure for DIA users and intelligence analysts under terms of a potential $300 million five-year DIA contract.
BAE Systems is prime contractor for the Next Generation Desktop Environment (NGDE), and will create a multiple security level, multi-intelligence analyst environment that maintains DIA's compliance with U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) standards for intelligence systems and applications.
The upgraded workstations are to provide analysts with access to critical applications requiring less maintenance and offering greater control over software licenses, versions, and updates than is available today, BAE officials say. Company IT experts will create an infrastructure in which DIA analysts will access complex 3D graphics, computationally demanding software tools, and software such as streaming video, through a server rather than by maintaining software on individual desktops.
This five-year contract is an extension of the NGDE pilot phase conducted earlier in 2010 that deployed and evaluated workstations worldwide in an operational environment. For more information contact BAE Systems online at www.baesystems.com.
