Elma Electronic Honored with Prestigious Military & Aerospace Electronics 2017 Innovators Awards
FREMONT, Calif., November 2017 – Elma Electronic’s CMOSS C4ISR VPX backplane, developed in conjunction with and for the DoD Hardware Convergence Initiative, was honored with a Gold award in the annual Military & Aerospace Electronics 2017 Innovators Awards program. The judging panel consisted of senior-level, third-party industry professionals.
The first of its kind, the CMOSS C4ISR backplane is a high speed 3U VPX backplane that supports the integration of mixed payload modules, including COTS single board computers, switches and RF payloads for computer architectures used by the DOD’s C4ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) converged architectures.
The is the first VPX backplane with a radial slot card for timing and synchronization. Unique to this backplane is its support of high speed signals on all the data paths in addition to providing leading-edge VITA 67.3 connectors compatible with legacy VITA 67.1 and VITA 66.4 RF and optical I/O connectors.
“We’re very honored to receive this prestigious Innovators Award from Military & Aerospace Electronics," said Ken Grob, director of embedded computing development. "This latest backplane incorporates new VPX features unmatched by any other embedded backplane architecture to date. Our team worked tirelessly along with the standards groups to bring about the best design, so we’re proud that everyone’s expert contributions have been acknowledged."
Alan Bergstein, publisher of Military & Aerospace Electronics, said, "This prestigious program allows Military & Aerospace Electronics to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products and services in the military electronics industry. Our 2017 honorees are an outstanding example of companies making an impact."
Honorees are selected for this year’s most influential products and designs that represent true solutions to difficult aerospace and defense electronics design challenges. This is the second annual event, where technology innovation and its impact on systems and subsystems integrators is recognized. The Innovators Awards are judged based on the following criteria:
- Innovation
- Value to the User
- Sustainability
- Meeting a Defined Need
- Collaboration
- Impact
