DoD opens 'Golden Dome' industry portal for missile defense technologies

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has launched a digital industry portal intended to identify and evaluate commercial and nontraditional technologies for the Golden Dome for America homeland air and missile defense architecture, with initial areas of interest spanning sensors, radar, artificial intelligence, command and control, electronic warfare, cybersecurity, positioning, navigation and timing, and kinetic and nonkinetic weapons.

Gen. Michael Guetlein, director of Golden Dome for America, announced the launch of the Golden Dome for America Ecosystem Hub on 11 August 2026 at the Space and Missile Defense Symposium in Huntsville, Ala. The portal, at hub.goldendome.mil, is intended to provide a single entry point for defense primes, small businesses, technology startups, academic institutions, research laboratories, and other organizations developing capabilities relevant to the program.

What is Golden Dome?

Golden Dome is envisioned as a layered, integrated homeland air and missile defense architecture rather than a single weapon system. The Pentagon describes it as a "system of systems" that will integrate existing and new capabilities to defend the United States against ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles and other aerial threats.

The concept includes space-based sensors and interceptors as well as terrestrial and other missile-defense capabilities. The administration's January 2025 executive order also called for hypersonic and ballistic missile tracking from space, proliferated space-based interceptors, capabilities intended to defeat missile threats before launch, non-kinetic missile-defense capabilities, and underlayer and terminal-phase intercept capabilities.

The Pentagon subsequently said the architecture would need to integrate existing U.S. space-based sensors and air and missile defense capabilities with next-generation systems and would be fielded in phases.

The program therefore spans the full defensive chain from detection and tracking through command and control, targeting and engagement, with enabling technologies supporting the architecture.

Hub seeks broad range of technologies

The new Hub provides an industry intake mechanism for that architecture. The department says organizations do not need to identify which government office needs their technology. Instead, the Hub is designed to route submissions to appropriate government review teams based on the capabilities described by the submitting organization.

The initial capability areas cover the major functions of a layered air and missile defense architecture.

Under "Find, Fix, Assess," the Hub identifies low-cost sensors and radars; space-based electro-optical, infrared, signals intelligence, and passive sensors; terrestrial sensors and radars; and air, surface, and underwater sensors.

For tracking and targeting, the program identifies artificial intelligence, track management, command and control, battle management, and AI and autonomy.

Engagement technologies include low-cost interceptors, terrestrial and space-based kinetic capabilities, nonkinetic capabilities, terrestrial launchers, electronic warfare, and materials and energetics.

The Hub also identifies cybersecurity, positioning, navigation and timing, spectrum, and digital engineering and modeling and simulation as enabling capabilities.

The breadth of those categories is significant for the defense electronics industry because Golden Dome is being framed as an integrated architecture in which sensors, computing and data processing, command and control, communications, electronic warfare and weapons effects must operate as a connected system. Program officials have previously described the architecture as scalable, modular and multi-layered, with the ability to change technologies if individual components cannot meet schedule requirements.

Hub provides an industry entry point

According to the Hub's FAQ, any organization developing a capability relevant to Golden Dome can submit, including emerging technology companies, small businesses, established defense contractors, academic institutions and research laboratories.

Organizations submit capabilities through a guided intake process. The department says submissions undergo a mission-applicability review that considers technical maturity, operational alignment, and supply-chain security before being routed to relevant government review teams.

Potential outcomes include additional technical discussions, technical deep dives, prototyping contracts, prize-based acquisitions, and Other Transaction Agreements. A submission that is not selected for an immediate program or partnership may be retained for future consideration as requirements and funding priorities evolve.

The Hub recommends limiting capability statements to one or two pages. Its FAQ says Requests for Information and Commercial Solutions Openings typically allow 10 to 15 pages, while individual solicitations establish their own requirements.

The department also says that submitting a capability statement does not transfer or alter an organization's intellectual-property rights. Formal negotiations concerning data rights would occur if a company is selected for an acquisition award.

Industry and industrial-base focus

The Hub is also intended to give the Golden Dome program greater visibility into the defense industrial base. The department says the system will help identify supply-chain vulnerabilities, diversify suppliers and reduce dependence on individual vendors.

That focus is consistent with comments Guetlein made to Congress in April, when he said the Golden Dome program had been working with industry and had established the Ecosystem Hub as a single point of entry for companies. He also described efforts to examine supply-chain security and vulnerabilities among potential suppliers.

The Hub's emphasis on nontraditional suppliers also comes as Golden Dome officials seek to bring commercial and emerging technologies into an architecture that is expected to evolve over multiple phases. Publicly discussed elements already include space-based missile-warning and tracking capabilities and space-based interceptor development.

For industry, the Hub provides a mechanism to present capabilities across a broad range of sensing, processing, command and control, weapons, and enabling functions without first identifying a specific Golden Dome program office. Its longer-term significance will depend on the specific capability gaps, government evaluations, and acquisition opportunities that emerge through the portal.
