TASKING integrates software tracing with SafeRTOS for embedded timing analysis

The integration enables developers to examine runtime behavior, including real-time operating system (RTOS) task states, context switches, scheduling activity, stack usage, and application events through the target's existing debug interface

MUNICH - TASKING has integrated its Software Trace (SWAT) tool with SafeRTOS, a real-time operating system from WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems, to provide operating-system-aware timing analysis for embedded systems without dedicated on-chip hardware trace support.

The integration enables developers to examine runtime behavior, including real-time operating system (RTOS) task states, context switches, scheduling activity, stack usage, and application events through the target's existing debug interface, TASKING says. The software-based approach is intended to provide trace capabilities on embedded processors that lack dedicated hardware trace resources, potentially avoiding hardware modifications.

The tools also enable developers to analyze central processing unit (CPU) load and resource usage, monitor task timing, and identify resource bottlenecks during application development and testing. The resulting timing information can support software verification and functional-safety certification activities.

SafeRTOS is designed for embedded applications requiring deterministic real-time behavior and functional-safety compliance. WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems offers pre-certified versions of the operating system for standards including IEC 61508 and ISO 26262.

The companies are targeting safety-critical embedded applications, including automotive and industrial systems.
