VCSEL laser diode for industrial and automotive applications offered by parts distributor Laser Components
BEDFORD, N.H – Parts distributor Laser Components USA Inc. in Bedford, N.H., is offering the VD-0940V-015M-xx-2B0 vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) diode for automotive and industrial applications.
The VD-0940V-015M-xx-2B0 VCSEL uses a dual-junction design to convert an operating current of 8 milliamps into an output power of 15 milliwatts.
This corresponds to a conversion efficiency of 52 percent. The round beam typical of VCSEL laser diode technology has a divergence of 25 degrees, enabling designers to couple the laser light into fibers with virtually no loss.

The operating temperature of this laser source ranges from -40 degrees to 85 degrees Celsius, and it also meets other requirements for automotive applications, in which VCSEL lasers act as light sources for facial recognition and gesture control.
Dual-junction diodes use two stacked p-n junctions connected by a tunnel junction to increase conversion efficiency; less operating current is necessary for laser output to enable design of small and fast components.
