Edmund Optics introduces configurable ring lights for machine vision
BARRINGTON, N.J. - Edmund Optics has introduced LUMIMAX configurable ring lights for machine vision applications, enabling engineers to modify illumination characteristics with interchangeable optical kits.
The off-the-shelf ring lights are a modular illumination platform for inspection applications where lighting requirements can change with the object being inspected, working distance, field of view, or surface characteristics. The lights are available in white, blue at 470 nanometers, green at 528 nanometers, red at 625 nanometers, and near-infrared at 850 nanometers.
The LUMIMAX system uses interchangeable lens-array, dome-extension, and window kits to modify the ring light's illumination. The lens-array kit provides brightfield and darkfield illumination options, allowing engineers to select different lighting geometries based on the features they need to highlight during inspection.
A dome-extension kit converts the ring light for highly diffuse illumination, which can help illuminate reflective or curved surfaces more uniformly. The window kit adds a diffuser and polarizer to reduce glare and adjust illumination characteristics for specific inspection requirements.
The modular configuration lets engineers adapt a single illumination platform to different machine vision inspection tasks, rather than selecting a separate lighting configuration for every application. This can be useful during system development as inspection requirements evolve or different components and surfaces need to be evaluated.
Edmund Optics says the LUMIMAX ring lights are available from its global in-stock inventory for fast delivery, enabling machine vision developers to obtain and deploy the illumination hardware without waiting for a custom lighting configuration.
