Edmund Optics adds SMT-compatible LED optics to its portfolio

Designed for standard pick-and-place assembly processes, the devices include integrated solder pads and tape-and-reel packaging to support PCB assembly and alignment between the optic and LED source without requiring additional mounting hardware or manual alignment.

BARRINGTON, N.J. - Edmund Optics in Barrington, N.J., has expanded its off-the-shelf optical component portfolio with LumenFlow Surface-Mount Optics, a series of SMT-compatible LED optics designed for prototyping, evaluation, and printed circuit board (PCB) integration.

The optics are available in single-unit and reel quantities to support evaluation and production workflows while reducing minimum order requirements typically associated with surface-mount optical components. Designed for standard pick-and-place assembly processes, the devices include integrated solder pads and tape-and-reel packaging to support PCB assembly and alignment between the optic and LED source without requiring additional mounting hardware or manual alignment.

LumenFlow optics use a silicone compound designed to provide beam shaping, optical efficiency greater than 90%, and operation across ultraviolet-A through near-infrared wavelengths. Compared with conventional thermoplastic optics, the silicone-based components are designed to maintain optical and mechanical performance during high-temperature reflow processes, extended UV exposure, and operation in thermally demanding environments.

The surface-mount format is intended for applications requiring compact optical assemblies, including designs where optics must be positioned near heat-generating components or integrated directly into electronic assemblies.

Edmund Optics provides optical components, imaging systems, and custom optical solutions for industrial, life sciences, semiconductor, defense, and other markets. The company’s LumenFlow Surface-Mount Optics are available through its off-the-shelf product portfolio.
