DC-DC converters for military power electronics that run off a 12-volt battery introduced by Calex
CONCORD, Calif. – Calex Mfg. Co. Inc. in Concord, Calif., is introducing the QRW series of DC-DC converters. The QRW power electronics device is housed in an industry-standard quarter-brick package and has an input range of 9 to 18 volts DC, for applications powered by a 12-volt battery.
The QRW offers two models, 3.3 and 5 volts output, both rated at 30 amps. Both converters achieve efficiency with synchronous rectification technology, advanced electronic circuits, packaging, and thermal design.
The efficiency of the 3.3 volts output model is 92 percent and the 5 volts output model operates at 93 percent efficiency. Both models offer ON/OFF to minimize power consumption during the OFF state.
The QRW series is isolated input to output as well as the baseplate of the converter. Input to output isolation is 2250 volts DC. The converters operate at a fixed frequency of 285 kHz.

Both converters will operate down to a no load condition. Output regulation over the input voltage range is 0.2 percent and from zero to full load regulation also is 0.2 percent. The temperature coefficient of the QRW is 0.02 percent/C. Output ripple and noise for the 3.3-volt model is 10 millivolts peak to peak. The 5-volt model has output ripple and noise of 12 millivolts peak to peak.
The operating temperature range of the QRW is -40 to 100 Celsius. Storage temperature is -55 to 125 C. Both models have over current protection, short circuit protection and over-temperature protection.
All Calex DC-DC converters are backed by a 5-year warranty. Case dimensions are 1.54 by 2.39 by 0.52 inches. Unit weight is 2.4 ounces.
