Applications include wireless communications systems design, automated test equipment (ATE), and radiated immunity pre-compliance EMC testing.

FAIRPORT, N.Y. – Electronics distributor Saelig Co. Inc. in Fairport, N.Y., is offering the Windfreak Technologies LLC SynthUSB3 pocket-size software-tunable RF signal generator and frequency sweeper for mobile, low power, lightweight RF signal generation.

The SynthUSB3 operates between 12.5 MHz and 6.4 GHz and can be controlled and powered by any device running Windows, Linux, or Android via a USB port. Applications include wireless communications systems design, automated test equipment (ATE), and radiated immunity pre-compliance EMC testing.

The SynthUSB3 test and measurement instrument also has built-in nonvolatile flash memory so it can be programmed to operate by itself without a PC connection for a frequency, power, sweep, or modulation setting.

The provided user-friendly GUI application controlling the SynthUSB3, written in LabVIEW, provides a desktop instrument experience and performance at a fraction the cost of a standalone instrument.

Data entry on the PC is via a displayed touchpad or knob, or directly with the PC's keyboard and arrow keys. Users can set power levels in 0.1dBm increments, with a maximum output of 8dBm and minimum of -50dBm.

RF and microwave power setting resolution is non-linear with finer resolution at higher output powers. On-board calibration is via a look-up table unique to each SynthUSB3 device.

Factory calibration is from 12.5 MHz to 6.4 GHz is stored in the built-in flash memory. RF frequency accuracy relies on an onboard 2.5ppm 10 MHz crystal oscillator. The unit measures 2 by 1 by 0.5 inches.
