Aerospace V&V: Combining virtual and physical testing for certification
Key Highlights
- Learn how hybrid testing integrates virtual simulations with physical tests to streamline aerospace verification and validation processes.
- Discover ways to reduce reliance on costly full-scale physical testing while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Understand the benefits of maintaining a digital thread for better traceability between requirements, tests, and results.
NASHUA, N.H. - Military + Aerospace Electronics cordially invites you to explore how aerospace organizations can integrate simulation and physical testing to improve verification, validation, and certification while potentially reducing testing costs and development time. This webinar is sponsored by Dassault Systèmes.
The free, one-hour webinar, titled Virtual + Real Testing: Rethinking Aerospace V&V and Certification, will take place Wednesday, 21 Oct. at 11 a.m. Eastern. The event will examine a hybrid testing approach that helps engineering teams coordinate virtual and physical tests throughout aerospace development.
Aerospace programs require extensive verification and validation (V&V) to demonstrate system performance, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. As programs grow more complex, engineering teams must manage large volumes of simulation results and physical test data while maintaining traceability between requirements, test activities, and results.
The Virtual + Real (V+R) Testing approach integrates simulation and real-world testing into an end-to-end verification, validation, and certification process. By coordinating virtual and physical tests, the approach aims to optimize test campaigns, make critical data available earlier in development, and maintain a digital thread connecting testing activities.
During the webinar, attendees will learn how hybrid testing can help optimize the test pyramid, potentially reduce reliance on costly full-scale physical testing, and improve product maturity at entry into service. Presenters will also discuss challenges involving program scale, compliance, testing costs, collaboration, and late-stage design changes.
The V+R approach was developed through the UKRI Smarter Testing project, a collaboration involving Dassault Systèmes, Airbus UK, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), ZEISS, and the Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS).
Presenters include Matthew Whittaker, EuroNorth SIMULIA industry process consultant at Dassault Systèmes, who supports customers adopting simulation-driven engineering solutions, including V+R testing technologies for aerospace, defense, and energy applications.
Also presenting is Chandresh Zinzuwadia, aerospace and defense industry business value consultant at Dassault Systèmes. His background includes aerospace engineering research, structural analysis, aircraft seat certification, and certification-related automation.
