Back to its roots: LynuxWorks changes name to Lynx Software Technologies
SAN JOSE, Calif., 20 May 2014. Executives of real-time, security, and safety-critical software specialist LynuxWorks Inc. in San Jose, Calif., are changing their company's name to Lynx Software Technologies Inc. to reflect the company's evolution to real-time and secure software.
"As the LynxOS RTOS family of products and the LynxSecure separation kernel hypervisor continue to gain increased traction both with our current customers and markets, and with the new Internet connected embedded world, the Lynx Software Technologies name offers the best representation of the company's forward direction," says CEO Gurjot Singh.
"One reason for this increased adoption of both LynxOS and LynxSecure products is their unique ability to protect connected embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT) from advanced cyber threats," Singh says. The company name change was announced today.
The company's products will continue to be designed to provide fail-safe reliability for successive generations of high-performance embedded computing devices for aerospace, defense, avionics, medical, industrial, consumer, office automation, transportation, and security applications, company officials say.
As more and more embedded devices become connected to the Internet, the need for built-in security becomes a necessity for embedded developers, officials say. Lynx Software Technologies provides military-grade security in its LynxOS RTOS and LynxSecure separation kernel hypervisor.
Prior to 2000 the company had been named Lynx Real-Time Systems Inc., and that year changed its name to LynuxWorks Inc. to reflect its involvement in the open-source Linux operating system. At the time the company's two core products were the LynxOS real-time operating system based on the Unix operating system, and the BlueCat real-time version of Linux.
Fourteen years later the company apparently is moving closer to its original roots with Linux no longer emphasized in the company's name. For more information contact Lynx Software Technologies online at www.lynx.com.
