Infrared sensor payload for UAVs, helicopters, and light jets introduced by Elbit

HAIFA, Israel, 31 July 2014. Elbit Systems Ltd. in Haifa, Israel, is introducing the DCoMPASS FHD iMEP all-in-one integrated surveillance sensor payload for lightweight platforms like light attack and search and rescue helicopters, medium-sized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and special-mission light jets.

Elbit Systems Ltd. in Haifa, Israel, is introducing the DCoMPASS FHD iMEP all-in-one integrated surveillance sensor payload for lightweight platforms like light attack and search and rescue helicopters, medium-sized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and special-mission light jets.

The iMEP integrates several mission systems and capabilities in a size-weight-power (SWaP) of a standard 15 inches, 88-pound electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) sensor payload.

The iMEP introduces an integrated digital map, digital video recorder, navigation and data link system, together with an open architecture design for easy and straight forward integration of additional mission equipment.

The sensor payload "allows an optimal operating point for the major system parameters of performance, weight, power consumption and size, all at a competitive price," says Adi Dar Executive Vice President and General Manager of Elbit Systems Intelligence and Electro-optics -- Elop.

The DCoMPASS FHD iMEP features upgraded video interfaces to support several HD digital video outputs together with the existing mechanical and electrical interfaces of earlier generation systems to facilitate upgrades for existing legacy platforms, Dar says.

More than 1,000 CoMPASS systems of various versions are in operational use around the world today, including prestigious programs such as the UK Watchkeeper program, several major Asian helicopter programs and large scale maritime patrol aircraft fleets.
