NEW YORK - Commercial carrier JetBlue in New York announced it is rolling out two new tools aimed at improving baggage tracking for travelers: real-time location monitoring of checked luggage via its mobile app and the ability for passengers to securely share the location of Apple AirTags or other Find My network devices with the airline’s baggage service team.
The mobile app enhancement builds on JetBlue’s existing baggage status notifications, previously sent by email. Now, travelers can view real-time updates directly within the airline’s app across its entire network. The update aims to give passengers greater visibility into the location of their luggage and reduce stress during travel.
In addition, passengers who place an Apple AirTag or other Find My-compatible device in their checked bags can now share the tracker’s location with JetBlue in the event of a delay. Customers can generate a temporary location-sharing link in Apple’s Find My app and provide it to JetBlue either by scanning a QR code in the baggage claim area or by working with airport staff. The access link automatically expires once the bag is returned, and customers retain full control of their privacy settings.

"We are constantly looking for ways to offer our customers a more convenient travel experience," said Carol Clements, JetBlue’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer. "This new in-app bag tracking feature, along with AirTag location sharing for baggage recovery, are designed to bring customers peace of mind when checking their bags with JetBlue."
JetBlue says these tools will help expedite recovery efforts and support its reputation for efficient baggage handling. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, JetBlue ranked second among all U.S. carriers for baggage performance in 2024, with fewer than 1% of checked bags delayed.
The airline continues to invest in technology aimed at improving reliability and customer confidence. By pairing app-based tracking with optional AirTag support, JetBlue hopes to give travelers “one less thing to worry about,” the company said.
