Summary Points:

  • The partnership will focus on sandbox testing of advanced air-mobility systems, development of vertiports, zero-emission / low-noise operations and workforce training, with commercial service expected in 2028 and international routes by 2029.
  • Eve's eVTOL design uses a lift+cruise architecture with dedicated vertical-lift rotors and fixed wings, aiming for ~96 km range, ~201 km/h cruise speed and seating for pilot + four passengers (six in autonomous mode).
  • Key system suppliers include Garmin for the flight-deck, Liebherr for electromechanical actuators, and Intergalactic for thermal-management, underpinning the high-tech architecture and certification-readiness.

BAHRAIN - Eve Air Mobility in São Paulo, Brazil, announced a framework agreement with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain during the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2025.

The partnership with the ministry will help accelerate readiness of the regulatory, operational, and infrastructure ecosystem in Bahrain for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations. Key objectives include establishing a sandbox environment to test and refine advanced air mobility systems and developing vertiport infrastructure for safe and scalable eVTOL deployment. The collaboration also emphasizes zero-emission, low-noise operations and workforce training. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2028 and expand to international routes by 2029.

Eve’s eVTOL design employs a lift-plus-cruise configuration, with dedicated vertical-lift rotors for take-off and landing and fixed wings for cruise flight. This approach eliminates complex tilt-rotor mechanisms, improving efficiency and maintainability while reducing noise during operations. The aircraft is being developed for a pilot and four passengers, with capacity expandable to six in future autonomous variants. Eve targets a range of about 60 miles and a cruise speed of roughly 125 mph in early design disclosures.

To support flight control and safety-critical systems, Eve has selected Garmin’s G3000 integrated flight deck, Liebherr-Aerospace electromechanical actuators for its fly-by-wire controls, and a thermal management system from Intergalactic to regulate battery and electronics temperatures. The company is pursuing primary certification with Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), with validation by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to follow. Drawing on the aerospace manufacturing heritage of parent company Embraer S.A., Eve is also developing a complete urban air mobility ecosystem that includes operations software, vertiport infrastructure, and urban air traffic management tools.

"Signing this framework agreement with the Kingdom of Bahrain represents a historic step in our journey to bring sustainable air mobility to the Middle East," said Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve. "Bahrain’s vision to become a hub for innovation and clean transportation aligns perfectly with our mission to transform the way people move in cities and regions sustainably. Together, we are building the foundation for safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible eVTOL operations that will connect communities and unlock new economic opportunities."
