MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Holt Integrated Circuits in Mission Viejo, Calif., is introducing the ADK-6139 application development kit for the company's HI-6139 device with a software-controlled MIL-STD-1553A mode, but otherwise functionally identical and drop-in compatible with Holt's existing HI-6138 MAMBA MIL-STD-1553 avionics databus interface device.

It therefore provides the possibility of adding MIL-STD-1553A capability to any existing MAMBA terminal design with minimal software changes. The MAMBA family is among the world's smallest MIL-STD-1553 integrated solutions, with a minimum footprint of 6 by 6 millimeters.

The hardware consists of two boards: an upper HI-6139 board with configuration DIP switches, programmed self-configuration EEPROMs, and two transformer-coupled MIL-STD-1553 avionics databus interfaces.

The lower microprocessor board has an ARM Cortex M3 16/32-bit MCU, JTAG debug interface and regulated 3.3-volt DC power supply. The HI-6139 board can be separated from the MCU board for connection to a user-supplied alternate microprocessor or FPGA platform.

The development kit includes a software reference design written in ANSI C, illustrating operation of the device in MIL-STD-1553A mode. The project source code can be customized and may be used as a starting point for application development, including MIL-STD-1553B or C terminal design.
