Low-skew twinax cable that prevents delay differences for inside-the-box applications introduced by Samtec
Summary points:
- Eye Speed Hyper low-skew twinax cable achieves just 1.75 ps/m intrapair skew for 224 Gbps PAM4 applications.
- Co-extruded, drainless shield construction ensures stable impedance and insertion loss to more than 60 GHz, even under bending.
- Eye Speed family includes several varieties tailored for performance, size, and reach — from standard twinax to ultra-thin micro-coax.
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Samtec Inc. in New Albany, Ind., is introducing Eye Speed Hyper low-skew twinax cable for 224-gigabit-per-second pulse amplitude modulation 4 (4PAM4) applications.
Samtec offers 32 American Wire Gauge (AWG) Eye Speed Hyper low-skew twinax for inside-the-box cable applications, with 27 AWG in development for long-reach cabled backplane systems.
Skew is a major design concern for 224-gigabit-per-second PAM4, manifesting as delay differences within a differential pair due to physical and electrical construction in the channel.
Tightly coupled, twinax cable that is co-extruded with drainless shield construction, like the Eye Speed product family, has skew performance as well as impedance and insertion loss stability even under realistic bending conditions.
High-speed performance
Eye Speed Hyper low-skew twinax is for applications where designers need optimal high-speed performance out to higher than 60 GHz Nyquist frequencies, and holding a maximum intrapair skew of 1.75 picoseconds per meter (ps/m).
Samtec Eye Speed cable technology has four varieties: Eye Speed twinax -- 3.5 picoseconds per meter max skew; 28-36 AWG; Eye Speed Thinax -- 40 percent smaller diameter than Eye Speed twinax, same performance; 34 AWG; Eye Speed Hyper low-skew twinax -- 1.75 picoseconds per meter max skew; 32 AWG with 27 AWG in development; and Eye Speed ThinSE -- thin micro-coax with 0.024inches outer diameter cable.
