ASHBURN, Va. – Executives of the Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions division in Ashburn, Va., are boosting their company's expertise in global battlefield network operations applications with their acquisition of Pacific Star Communications Inc. (PacStar) in Portland, Ore.

Curtiss-Wright officials announced their intention last week to acquire the stock of PacStar. Financial details were not released. Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions specializes in rugged and secure mission-critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industries.

PacStar provides advanced tactical communications for battlefield network management, including commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) rugged, small-form-factor communications systems, and proprietary IQ-Core network communications management software.

The addition of PacStar's product portfolio to Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions will expand the breadth of the mission-critical mobile and secure COTS-based processing, data management, and communications technologies of Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions, company officials say.

"With the acquisition of PacStar, Curtiss-Wright's Defense Solutions division firmly establishes its position as a leading supplier of advanced tactical and enterprise network communications solutions," says Lynn Bamford, president of the Curtiss-Wright defense and power segments.

"PacStar's best-in-class battlefield NetOps solutions fit strategically with Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions mission-critical mobile and secure COTS-based technologies, enabling us to provide customers with a completely secure and integrated battlefield network, from the processing and data nodes within combat vehicles to individual warfighters in the battlefield - all managed by a 'single pane of glass' network and security management software platform," Bamford says.

PacStar specializes in mission-critical applications, combining tactical networking equipment and software to enable enhanced battlefield situational awareness down to the individual warfighter. The company's patented software and hardware technologies are core components of secure command, control, and communications systems --particularly in remote or infrastructure-starved areas.

PacStar's IQ-Core Software helps set up and manage network communications like secure wireless, satellite communications (SATCOM), and soldier-portable systems. PacStar technology is designed into military systems like Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T), Transportable Tactical Command Communications (T2C2), and the U.S. Marine Corps Networking-on-the-Move (NOTM) program.
