CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., 28 April 2009. Cabin avionics designers at Airbus in Toulouse, France, needed customized 3U CompactPCIsingle board computer technology for passenger jet cabin electronic systems. They found their solution in the CL11 embedded computer board from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va.

Airbus avionics designers mandated that GE Fanuc's computer board blade system be high performance, small and light weight, rugged, able to operate in the harsh environment and extended temperature range of an aircraft, and include the I/O capabilities for avionics.

The initial order is for $500,000 but future orders may amount to $15 million over the five-year life of the program, GE Fanuc officials say.

The CL11 is a fanless 3U CompactPCI single board computer Intel Core Duo or Core2 Duo processor. The embedded computer supports as many as four PCI Express interfaces, six USB 2.0 ports, two serial ATA ports, optional CompactFlash, VGA/SDVO, and one COM port at the backplane.

The CL11 comes as either a system or non-system slot single board computer, with extended temperature option of –40 to 75 degrees Celsius. For more information contact GE Fanuc online at www.gefanuc.com.
