WASHINGTON - The Department of Defense (DoD), Boeing, and RTX are moving to increase production of hardware for Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IB and Block IIA interceptors under new seven-year framework agreements.
Boeing has signed the agreements with the DoD and Raytheon, an RTX business and the SM-3 prime contractor, to increase production of avionics and ejector assemblies for the two SM-3 variants. Boeing, the DoD and Raytheon will ramp production as they negotiate a multiyear award under the framework agreements.
The SM-3 is a ship-launched interceptor used with the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System. The Block IIA variant is designed to intercept medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles, while the Block IB is an earlier version of the SM-3 interceptor.

The agreements are intended to expand production capacity for the interceptors and their critical components. Boeing said the framework agreements provide a clear demand signal to build and deliver SM-3 interceptors at the levels needed to counter missile threats.
The SM-3 agreements are part of a broader effort by the DoD and defense industry to increase production of critical munitions. On 17 Aug., RTX announced a seven-year, $22.9 billion contract for Tomahawk cruise missiles and said the contract will support annual production of more than 1,000 Tomahawks and associated support.
RTX also said it delivered three times as many Tomahawk missiles during the first half of 2026 as during the first half of 2025 and is increasing capacity through investments in its workforce, technology, facilities, and supply chain.
Boeing said the SM-3 framework builds on its existing agreement with the DoD and Lockheed Martin to increase production of seekers for the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor.
