FARO CREAFORM launches HandySCAN 3D EVO Series handheld laser scanner
LÉVIS, Quebec - FARO CREAFORM, a business of AMETEK Inc., in Levis, Quebec, has introduced the HandySCAN 3D EVO Series, a handheld 3D laser scanning system designed to improve precision measurement and inspection workflows for industrial and engineering applications.
The new EVO Series builds on more than two decades of portable 3D scanning development by FARO CREAFORM, extending the HandySCAN platform with integrated processing, visualization, and user interface capabilities to reduce reliance on external computing during data acquisition.
The system features a built-in 4.3-inch touchscreen display and embedded graphical user interface (GUI), enabling real-time visualization, parameter adjustment, and scan validation directly on the device. An integrated 12-megapixel camera supports augmented reality (AR)-based workflows and inspection documentation, allowing operators to capture contextual images alongside 3D measurement data.
Engineers can use onboard tools for mesh manipulation, high-resolution scanning modes, and clipping functions, while an auto-alignment capability is intended to streamline repetitive inspection tasks and improve throughput in quality control environments.
The HandySCAN EVO Elite configuration provides measurement accuracy of 0.020 mm and volumetric accuracy of 0.020 mm plus 0.015 mm per meter. The system uses 46 blue laser lines, with an additional single line for fine-detail capture, and supports a 350 mm scale bar to maintain measurement accuracy in field conditions.
Wireless operation is supported through an optional Mobility Kit, enabling untethered scanning in constrained or remote environments. The system is compatible with the Creaform Metrology Suite software platform for post-processing, analysis, and reporting.
The HandySCAN 3D EVO Series is manufactured in Canada and is designed for applications in aerospace, defense, automotive, manufacturing, and heavy equipment sectors, where metrology-grade accuracy and portability are required for product development, maintenance, and inspection tasks.
