Echodyne, ACS integrate radar with robotic counter-drone weapon station
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Echodyne and Allen Control Systems (ACS) have integrated Echodyne's EchoShield radar with ACS's Bullfrog robotic weapon station under a strategic collaboration agreement to develop counter-uncrewed aircraft system (C-UAS) capabilities for land and maritime operations.
EchoShield supplies radar-derived position and velocity data to Bullfrog, which combines computer vision, autonomous control and precision robotics with existing weapon systems. The companies say the radar data can help Bullfrog orient its sensors toward potential threats, maintain tracks on maneuvering drones and develop firing solutions.
The integration is intended to combine radar tracking with Bullfrog's other sensing capabilities. The companies plan further testing and demonstrations for fixed-site, mobile, expeditionary and maritime applications, including crewed and uncrewed vessels.
The companies say combining commercial radar with existing weapons and ammunition could reduce reliance on specialized missile interceptors for some counter-drone missions. They have not disclosed comparative engagement costs or quantified performance results for the integrated system.
The agreement follows separate awards to Echodyne and ACS under Joint Interagency Task Force 401's Domestic Shield initiative and C-UAS Marketplace. The awards provide acquisition pathways for each company's technology but do not establish that the combined system has been procured or fielded.
