Ruggedized F-mount periscope optics from Resolve Optics chosen for ballistic range camera
Posted by John Keller
CHESHAM, England, 21 April 2010.Optical systems engineers at Specialised Imaging Ltd. in Tring, England, needed a ruggedized F-mount periscope to provide real-time focusing of any prime lens on their SIR3 high-speed ballistic range camera. They found their solution from Resolve Optics Ltd. in Chesham, England.
Traditionally most range camera designs have made do with lens focusing systems not designed for the high shock and vibration environment of the ballistic testing range. Specialized Imaging asked Optics Ltd. to design and manufacture a rugged and lockable F-mount periscope focusing system for the SIR3 with a manual iris adjustment enabling use of any prime lens including modern DSLR lenses that have no manual iris control.
A micro switch, activated by the mirror slide, was incorporated into the periscope design, to ensure that the camera can not be used while the mirror is in the focusing position.
