Molex expands AirBorn SInergy connector platform with 25A power modules
LISLE, Ill. - Molex in Lisle, Ill., announced it has expanded its AirBorn SInergy Modular High-Speed Hybrid Connector portfolio with new high-power contacts that support up to 25 amps within a standard module bay, enabling designers to combine power, high-speed data and RF connectivity in a single modular connector.
The new power modules increase the platform's power-handling capability while maintaining the compact footprint of the SInergy connector system. The expansion is intended for aerospace and defense applications that require higher electrical loads in space-constrained environments, including aircraft, radar, satellites, avionics, and combat vehicles.
The SInergy platform supports up to five configurable connector bays that can be populated with signal, power, or RF contacts in any combination. According to Molex, the modular architecture enables engineers to customize contact placement based on application requirements rather than using fixed hybrid connector layouts.
Signal contacts support data rates up to 25 Gbps, while RF contacts operate at frequencies up to 40 GHz. The addition of 25A power contacts allows the platform to consolidate multiple connector types into a single assembly, reducing connector count, bill of materials, and supply chain complexity for densely populated printed circuit board designs.
The connector family is designed for operation in harsh environments and meets MIL-DTL-83513 specifications. The new power contacts were engineered to the MIL-DTL-39029 crimp-contact standard and are rated for a 30-degree Celsius temperature rise above ambient. Molex says the thermal performance is supported by derating test data for applications with limited heat dissipation, including space systems.
According to the company, development of the new power modules was driven by customer demand for modular connector systems capable of supporting power, signal and RF connectivity within a common platform.
