Army awards $99 million contract for AI-enabled TyrOS logistics platform

Rune describes TyrOS as a logistics software platform that integrates supply, transportation, maintenance, personnel, operational, and geospatial data into a common operating picture for military logisticians.

Key Highlights

  • TyrOS integrates supply, transportation, maintenance, personnel, and geospatial data into a unified operational picture for logisticians.
  • The platform supports both autonomous and crewed systems, with recent updates including an Autonomy Development Kit for vehicle integration.
  • TyrOS uses advanced scheduling and optimization software to allocate resources based on mission needs and asset status.

ARLINGTON, Va. - The U.S. Army has awarded Rune Technologies a $99 million contract for its TyrOS logistical operations software platform, a system designed to help military organizations coordinate transportation, sustainment, and operational logistics across distributed environments.

The firm-fixed-price contract was awarded by Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Work locations and funding will be determined with individual orders under the contract, which has an estimated completion date of 15 June 2031.

Rune describes TyrOS as a logistics software platform that integrates supply, transportation, maintenance, personnel, operational, and geospatial data into a common operating picture for military logisticians. The company says the platform has been deployed to support Army and Marine Corps logistics initiatives and demonstrations, and is designed to operate both at the tactical edge and in cloud environments.

Rune says TyrOS uses scheduling and optimization software to help logisticians allocate transportation and sustainment resources based on mission requirements, asset availability, maintenance status, and operational conditions. According to the company, the platform was designed to support both crewed and autonomous systems using a common scheduling framework.

The company recently announced an Autonomy Development Kit (ADK) intended to enable autonomous vehicle manufacturers to integrate their systems with the TyrOS platform. The toolkit includes application programming interfaces, software libraries, documentation, and telemetry interfaces that allow autonomous systems to exchange operational data and receive tasking through the logistics environment.

According to Rune, autonomous platforms integrated through the ADK can provide information such as position, fuel status, battery condition, system faults, and payload capacity to the TyrOS environment. The company says integrated systems can then be incorporated into logistics planning and mission scheduling activities alongside traditional crewed assets.

Rune says the ADK is intended to simplify integration of autonomous systems through standardized interfaces and open application programming interfaces, allowing vehicle manufacturers to connect their platforms to a common logistics orchestration environment.

For military and aerospace electronics developers, the award highlights increasing demand for technologies that combine edge computing, cloud-native software architectures, geospatial analytics, optimization algorithms, autonomous systems integration, and operational decision-support tools. As the military expands the use of autonomous logistics systems and data-driven sustainment technologies, platforms capable of integrating and coordinating those capabilities are expected to play an increasingly important role in future operations.
